Evolution of the Flag

The Eureka flag is one of the few colonial flags that do not have the Union Jack on it. It has been a symbol of mateship and multiculturalism since the miners from all over the globe swore an oath to stand by each other and defend their rights and liberties.

The colours are changed to Green and Gold to identify with our National sporting elite who have had to wear our green and gold uniforms while waving a Red White and Blue flag.

The inclusion of the kangaroo silhouette was to make it instantly recognisable as Australian, nothing to do with roadkill, pet meat or an icon.

1987 - 2000

When Cathy Freeman grabbed the Aboriginal and Australian flags to do her lap of honour at the Sydney Olympics I decided that I should try and incorporate the elements from both into one design to acknowledge First Nation People who have lived here for around 65,000 years.

2000 - 2011

A lady who purchased a flag from us was very pleased with the design but asked if it was possible to add the Epsilon star into the design to give a more accurate Southern Cross.

The flag looked unbalanced so I added the Federation Star, I then moved the vertical arms closer to the fly to give a closer representation of the Southern Cross, not perfect but hard to do considering the overall design.

WHY THIS FLAG?

For everyone who has ever wondered, why are our Australian sporting colours not on our national flag? I wonder that too.

I have a passion for my design. I put my time and effort into

making my flag noticed. I am proud of being an Australian and I

think that despite having a wonderful current Australian flag, we

do need a change, a change for the better. As an Australian

citizen I must ask you all, when you see our flag, red white and

blue, do you see Australia? Our sporting colours are green and

gold, also our First Nation People are not mentioned in our flag.

The colours in my flag incorporate all of this, and I have also

placed a kangaroo into the design as kangaroos are identified throughout the world as Australian. This makes our flag highly recognizable and as an Australian you should understand this point as well. I have added the Epsilon Star into my design because it becomes the image of our Southern Cross, also added is the Federation Star, a seven pointed star with each tip representing a state and the territories within the Australian Commonwealth, bringing us together to make us one nation.

Cheers.
